grier building

i shot this saturday evening as the sun was setting. i love how the light at sunset plays on our old uptown buildings. greenwood has such potential to be beautiful and embrace it's history and really build a beautiful downtown.

i'm still playing catch up with school work, etc, hence the lack of postings. I shot this earlier today... the film is fresh out of the darkroom. i love how a moment of experimenting leads to a plethora of ideas.

for this photograph, i believe i did a multiple exposure of at least 5 frames in 1 on my holga. (fuji neopan 100 film) the negative is really dusty/dirty. i will eventually scan it again and clean it up more (or just print it in the darkroom. i have postcard paper for darkroom printing. i may have to use this negative for that.

smoke stack

i have an assignment for my photography class that involves taking a fresh look at some of our town's iconic landmarks. the previous post was one of the landmarks (cokesbury college and chapel). the photos above are of a torn down textile mill.

i shot these last night on my way home from class. i used my pinhole cap on my camera. the photos were kind of stagnant since it was just mostly rubble, so i worked on finding different compositions then worked with some silhouettes with myself. i believe my exposure time was around 1.6 seconds.

continuing with yesterday's post. this was one of the last shots i took yesterday. a friend of mine has done  headless shots like this so i was kind of mimicking that, i guess? but also, i didn't know what to do with my face in the photos, so i found it easier to just cover my face so i didn't have to think about it. i certainly wish there was a deeper meaning to it all than just that.

broken fences between past and present tenses

I'm getting back in the swing of taking pictures. Unfortunately, all the pictures I'm taking are of myself. I don't usually like taking pictures of myself, but I've been getting ideas of things to photograph, so I'm just going with it. Plenty of photographers have taken series of self portraits. It could be fun, I guess.

just the two of us

i apologize for my lack of creative posts lately. the past couple of weeks have been a blur and i can't seem to get my life in order. getting back in to a normal schedule with my classes and life and work is a difficult task and on top of that, my grandmother passed away this week. she's been sick for a while, but there's never an "okay" time for a loved one to move on like that. now that the funeral is over, i feel a bit relieved that i can get back to focusing more on my school work and my photography. i haven't really used my camera much in the past week other than to take these photos of me and my daughter yesterday before the funeral.

these portraits were taken with a 50mm/1.4  lens on my nikon d300. i love that lens for portraiture. i need to use it more. i had my camera on the tripod so all these would turn out pretty consistent in composition.

self portrait triptych

it's been a while since i've posted. i haven't been a slacker, just really busy. school is back in session, my grandmother is still sick. life is just kind of nuts.

i took this picture last night while waiting in the car. i feel pretty lame that the best thing i've shot in the past week is a stupid photo of myself.

i baby sat for a friend of mine this evening. leah wasn't feeling well and by 7:30 was asleep on the couch. there was just enough light from the television to illuminate her face. my ISO was set up to something really ridiculous (1600, maybe), hence all the grain in the photo.

sometimes i miss my daughter being this small. leah will be 2 in october. my daughter will be 14 in october. time flies.

pinhole triptych

taken over the summer when i first made my pinhole "lens" for my digital camera. i haven't messed with the images much, but decided to look over them today. i'm looking forward to working with this new idea.

digital pinhole

a while back i made a digital pinhole camera per the instructions from this site. i played around with it for a day or two but wasn't happy with the outcome so i left it alone and essentially forgot about it. so, today, i was testing out my new tripod that was given to me.... and was actually pleasantly surprised with the outcome. the figures are of me. i set the camera on self-timer and ran exposures between 4-6 seconds (ISO set at 400) i love the silhouetting effect and all the forms you see in the image.
